Dark Under-Eye Circles

If you have dark under-eye circles and are looking for non-surgical ways to treat them, Laser Touch Medical Clinic can offer laser and light treatments, dermal fillers, or topical products for safe non-surgical results.

Some causes of dark under-eye circles do not require medical treatment. For example, stress and fatigue can cause dark under-eye circles, as can smoking. If it is determined that one of these factors has caused your dark under-eye circles, Dr. Hakimian may simply suggest that you get some rest or quit smoking, and see if the problem corrects itself.

However, a treatable cause of dark under-eye circles is hyperpigmentation. Hyperpigmentation is a darkening of the skin and can often occur in the under-eye area, especially in those with darker skin tones. Even if your skin is healthy and in good condition, hyperpigmentation may be causing your dark under-eye circles. Several of our laser and light treatment procedures can correct dark under-eye circles caused by hyperpigmentation, although we tend to recommend an Intense Pulsed Light treatment, as it can be specifically adjusted to treat hyperpigmentation.

Another treatable cause of dark under-eye circles is excessive superficial vascularization under the eye. This essentially means that there is a surplus amount of blood vessels under the eye. The extra blood under the skin makes the skin appear dark. This condition can occur naturally, but can also result from taking certain medications. To treat these dark under-eye circles, laser vein therapy may be utilized to carefully shrink excess blood vessels, but leave other blood vessels intact.

If you have one or more visible blood vessels under your eye, the skin can appear dark. We all have blood vessels under our eyes, but they are usually embedded deep within the fatty tissues also found there. As we age, however, this fatty tissue is depleted. This can result in a hollow look, along with dark under-eye circles as veins become visible. Dermal fillers can help fill this area out, firming the area under the eye and hiding the blood vessels.

Finally, if you are looking for the least invasive and simplest treatment for dark under-eye circles on the market, Dr. Hakimian can also prescribe you with topical lotions that work to correct dark under-eye circles by providing nutrients and vitamins to the area, as well as by firming the area with collagen. The most common product that we prescribe for dark under-eye circles is Teamine Eye Complex® by Revision Skin Care™. This product uses antioxidants and other special ingredients to reduce the appearance of dark under-eye circles, under-eye bags, fine lines, and dry skin. Teamine Eye Complex® is one of the most effective dark under-eye circle topical treatments on the market.
