If Dr. Hakimian determines that you would benefit from a VI Peel™ chemical peel, he will schedule you for a chemical peel appointment. No topical anesthetics are needed, as the procedure is quite painless. Although patients may feel a slight stinging sensation when the topical application is first applied, this usually dissipates in just a few seconds, and many patients feel quite comfortable under a cool fan or breeze, which we will happily provide. The complete procedure usually takes about twenty minutes, and you may return to all normal activities immediately.
Three to four days after your VI Peel™ chemical peel, you will experience a light and flaky peeling of the skin. This is the dead skin coming off, leaving your refreshed and beautiful skin behind. Our clinic will provide you with a take-home kit to help enhance your treatment during this time, which includes towelettes, sunscreen, and a moisturizer. A single VI Peel™ chemical peel treatment can achieve significant results, and as long as sun exposure is moderate, only needs to be performed three to four times a year to maintain optimal results.
Side effects include a tan to red look that should dissipate within a week. Skin may feel tight for the first two days, and peeling usually occurs on the third and fourth days.
