Ceramides are key lipids found in our skin cells, they serve to prevent our skin from outside damage, as well as lock in moisture. The primary function of these lipids is to guard against water loss, making them a vital part of moisture.
Photodynamic therapy can help you achieve a smoother and more even skin tone, while reducing redness, facial flushing, pore size, wrinkles, acne, and Rosacea. Photodynamic therapy would be a good adjunctive to a dermal filler. Photodynamic therapy also uses topical applications such as creams, lotions, salves, or serums to treat the signs of aging. While these topical applications alone, would provide a less noticeable improvement, photodynamic therapy combines these topical applications with intense light energy, activating the products and deeply penetrating the skin to result in a more dramatic improvement.
During the procedure, the topical applications work gently on your skin. Once the blue light energy is applied, you may experience mild discomfort. However, if you have sensitive skin, Dr. Hakimian can apply a topical anesthetic before beginning. As with other light therapy, the number of treatments vary for each individual. Each treatment should be spaced three to four weeks apart. Immediately after the photodynamic treatment it is possible for your skin to have some redness, burning, swelling, and flaking. However, some of these effects will decrease over the next several hours to few days, resulting in skin that looks healthier and younger than ever before. After this time period, sunspots will fade, redness will diminish, and wrinkles will shrink.
If you are looking to improve your skin solely for the treatment of acne or Rosacea, blue light therapy can be used to specifically target these issues. In either case, the topical application used before the light treatment will be designed to specially treat acne or the redness that results from Rosacea. Results can generally be seen soon after the treatment.
