What is
IPL photorejuvenation?
IPL or Intense Pulsed Light Photofacial is a skin rejuvenation treatment that was designed to combat the effects of aging and sun damage. This treatment entails the controlled delivery of pure light to targeted areas, and effectively addresses imperfections on your face, neck, chest and hands. The overall effect gives your skin a younger and healthier look.
Light treatments are safe and effective, and have been used in countless treatments around the world. The energy delivered by these systems are delivered in precise controlled bursts, and only affect the target tissues while leaving surrounding tissues intact.
How
does IPL photofacial work?
This system utilizes the delivery of precise amounts of light energy to the skin surface using a specialized hand-piece with a smooth flat glass surface that is held against your skin. The light energy is gently absorbed by the skin causing the increased stimulation of collagen synthesis, softening the appearance of the fine lines and wrinkles, fading of hyper-pigmentation, discoloration and sun spots, decrease in pore size, and reduction of redness and flushing of rosacea.
What is an IPL treatment like?
Some people report a slight tingling sensation during treatment, which is pretty much likened to a rubber band snapping on your skin during controlled delivery of the light energy. Discomfort is minimal, but you can opt to have a topical anesthesia applied to your skin prior to treatment.
IPL skin
rejuvenation can be used for:
- fine lines and wrinkles,
- sun-damage including sunspots and discoloration,
- redness and flushing from rosacea,
- acne treatment
- acne scars
- enlarged pores
- scar removal by skin rejuvenation
- and for the general reconditioning of the skin.

How soon will I
see the results of the IPL treatment?
Results can be seen even after the first treatment, and you will immediately notice that your skin will have a more even tone and smoother look and feel. In less than 2 weeks after your initial treatment, you will begin to notice that your skin tone will even out, sunspots, discolorations and hyper-pigmentations will begin to fade, pores will shrink significantly, spider veins will disappear, redness will decrease, and fine lines and wrinkles will begin to even out. Patients with rosacea will see a decrease in redness and flushing by almost 80-90 percent. Your skin will be fresher and brighter with a lustrous youthful complexion.
How many IPL
treatments are needed?
Visible results will gradually increase throughout the course of treatment. For optimal results a series of 4-6 treatments is recommended spaced every three weeks apart. An evaluation should be made after each treatment to assess your skin’s response.
After IPL treatment
After the treatment, your skin may appear a little flushed, which will gradually fade to reveal younger looking skin. Post treatment pain is almost non-existent. It is recommended to use a sunscreen and to avoid exposure to the sun after IPL treatment.
